Nyamari Ongegu (born Inyatta Nyamari Ongegu on April 8, 1984), professionally known as Nyashinski, is a Kenyan rapper, singer, and composer. He co-founded the hip-hop duo Kleptomaniax before embarking on a successful solo career in the 2010s. His 2020 full-length debut album Lucky You showcased his lyrical and creative abilities, with softer, more uplifting songs as well as hard street music.

Nyashinski resided in Kenya until 2006, when he and his family moved to Delaware, USA, where he worked as a truck driver for ten years until returning to Kenya in 2016 to pursue his musical career.
In 2019, Nyashinski married his longtime lover, designer Zia Jepkemei Bett.Nyashinski and Zia had their first child in 2020.

Kleptomaniax 

Nyashinski began his musical career as a member of Kleptomaniax while still a high school student at Nairobi School, where he met Roba (Robert Manyasa) and Collo (Collins Majale), who founded the music trio Kleptomaniax in 1999. Although the guys were still in high school, they released their debut single, Freak It, in 2002 on the Ogopa DJs music label, which was followed by the massive successes Maniax Anthem and Haree. Tuendelee and Swing, released in 2004, were the trio's most popular singles, receiving hundreds of accolades and nominations. The three went on sabbatical in 2009 to pursue independent careers.


Solo career

Following Kleptomaniax's absence, Nyashinski had a 10-year vacation from music. He made a comeback in 2016 with the smash single Now You Know. His song Malaika won the Mdundo Award for Most Downloaded Male Single in 2017.

Nyashinski's music is recognized for its catchy melodies, smart lyrics, and distinct combination of African and Western influences. He blends ancient African rhythms with modern hip-hop, reggae, and R&B beats to produce a sound that is both recognizable and unique.


In addition to his musical career, Nyashinski is a philanthropist who has collaborated with various Kenyan groups to promote education, health, and economic development. He is also a vocal supporter of social justice and human rights, utilizing his position as a singer to raise awareness about issues impacting people in Kenya and throughout the world.
